US Seizes $1 Million in Crypto from BlackSuit Ransomware Group
US and international law enforcement agencies have confiscated over $1 million in cryptocurrency from the BlackSuit ransomware group, marking a significant blow to the organization's operations. The seizure, executed in late July, included servers, domain names, and digital assets tied to the group's illicit activities.
BlackSuit, an offshoot of the Royal ransomware gang, has targeted more than 450 victims in the US alone, extorting approximately $370 million in ransom payments. The group has focused on critical sectors, including healthcare, government, and manufacturing, employing double-extortion tactics—encrypting data and threatening to leak sensitive information unless payments are made.
This operation is part of a broader global effort to disrupt ransomware networks that exploit cryptocurrencies for financial gain. Authorities continue to prioritize dismantling such groups to mitigate risks to infrastructure and corporate entities worldwide.
